Protect Steel, Stop Corrosion, Keep Production Online

Oil and gas environments are unforgiving. Offshore rigs, refineries, terminals, and pipelines expose steel to salt spray, chemicals, UV, temperature swings, and constant mechanical abuse. Corrosion can attack structural steel, piping, valves, clamps, ladders, platforms, lifting gear, and smaller components like chains, shackles, hinges, and cable trays—especially at welds, edges, fasteners, and tight geometries where traditional coatings fail first.

The result is de-rated equipment, unplanned downtime, costly repairs, safety risks, and constant cycles of blasting, touch-ups, and recoating that consume thousands of maintenance hours and require permits in hazardous areas.

Gentoo helps operators stay ahead of corrosion, extend asset life, reduce maintenance burden, and keep critical infrastructure operating reliably in harsh oil and gas environments.

What Gentoo Can Do for the Oil & Gas Industry

  • Extend coating and asset life: Gentoo adds a dense barrier layer that slows underfilm corrosion, supports existing paint systems, and helps delay full recoats and component replacement.
  • Resist salt, spray, and chemicals: Its hydrophobic/oleophobic properties help keep saltwater, brine, and many aggressive fluids from wetting and sticking to steel, reducing pitting and general corrosion.
  • Protect against galvanic attack: By acting as an insulating barrier, Gentoo can help reduce galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals in clamps, fasteners, and mixed‑metal assemblies.
  • Make cleaning and inspection easier: Dirt, oils, and residues release more easily, so crews can rinse or wipe surfaces cleaner, faster, often with milder detergents—improving visibility for inspection and NDT.
  • Support uptime and safety: By slowing degradation on critical structures and equipment, Gentoo helps reduce corrosion‑related work orders, unplanned shutdowns, and safety hazards caused by weakened steel

“Cleaning a single BOP [blow-out preventer] used to require an hour or more, even with a pressure washer. After coating them with Gentoo, we’re down to about 15 minutes per BOP. That translates directly into savings.”

Practical Applications Across Oil & Gas Operations

  • Structural steel and supports: Beams, columns, cross‑bracing, walkways, handrails, stairs, and under‑deck steel exposed to salt spray and chemical vapors. Gentoo overlays the existing coating system to help keep moisture and corrosive ions out of microcracks and edges.
  • Lifting and handling gear: Cranes, booms, trolleys, winches, hooks, spreader bars, chains, shackles, and under‑sea or splash‑zone gates where coating damage and corrosion can compromise lifting capacity or operability.
  • Process and utility equipment: Pipe racks, manifolds, valves, flanges, heat exchanger shells, tank exteriors, and ladders, where localized coating failure often starts at nuts, bolts, and connections.
  • Coastal and splash‑zone assets: Loading arms, jetty structures, dolphins, fender systems, and access equipment are constantly exposed to saltwater, spray, and bird droppings.

Easy to Integrate Into Existing Operations

Gentoo is supplied as a two‑part clear coating that’s mixed on site and applied in a thin, even film over clean, dry, properly prepared surfaces. It can be sprayed or brushed/rolled onto existing paint or bare metal.

Once cured, Gentoo delivers long‑term performance in UV, salt spray, and chemical exposure while remaining clear, so inspections and color coding stay visible.

By layering Gentoo into planned outages, touch‑up programs, and rope‑access campaigns, operators can protect more steel with less added thickness, slow the corrosion clock, and reclaim thousands of hours otherwise spent blasting and repainting.
